Now that Jimmy Buffett has ascended to that great Margaritaville in the sky, and left us all alone down here still searching for that damn lost shaker of salt (SALT! SALT! SALT) - thank god we still have The Caribbean Chillers!
Last night (March 29, 2024), as the golden glow of the Southwest Florida sun dipped low over the Caloosahatchee River, something magical was brewing at the Edison Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers. It was a night where the spirit of the tropics came alive, where the music of Jimmy Buffett reverberated through the air, and where parrot heads gat...

We took a helicopter twice from Page Field to get over before the bridge. It cost as much as many boats were charging at the time. I can still smell it. 8 foot of water on the first floor. We dragged many things to the curb. All things. Anything metal rusted quickly in that ocean water. I didn’t get to go out in the streets because so much mitigation was necessary. Scraping mud for hours and tossing all broken and wet items outside. Knowing everyone else is doing the same. I didn’t expect a storm to affect me so much. Thank you for your tasteful drive through.

We will never recover. We can’t find reasonably priced labor. ($3600 a day surcharge) on top of the price of actual labor. Insurance companies are bastards…for instance they only gave us $1000 for flooring that costs $13,000. Lots of scammers out there trying to take advantage of old people. We are going to move more inland because these type of cat 4 or 5 hurricanes happen all the time now along the gulf coast. Goodbye forever Sanibel!

I'm glad to see that nature won in Sanibel. Sadly it has been way overbuilt. Like so many things in nature the humans just had too much hubris. I am so amused by Christians when they build on sand. They read the Bible but they don't heed any of the warnings.

So much debris... You all should build a new island with all that rubble or mound it all up and build on top of the mountain you create. Maybe it will help to be a little higher in elevation.

Florida is not a very smart state! The great state of Maryland forbids developers from building on our wonderful Barrier Island ! Assateague Island, home of the wild ponies! Assateague Island was formed by a hurricane in 1938. Only camping is permitted on our Barrier Island! Maryland is a very BLUE state with many rules & regulations! These regulations are there for a very good reason! Very glad I live in a PROGRESSIVE BLUE state , MARYLAND! 🥰🤗🌊🌅🌊⛱️🐬⚓⛵⚓

Yes it looks devastated, yes it is just heartbreaking. But what I can see is that most of the hurricane proof houses had relatively minor damages. Sorry to tell you this, but in my country, when there are several natural disasters in a row in the same area, we're not installing electrical poles anymore, they are underground lines. Most of the trash on the side of the road are caused from wind and water. There should be a city law that restricts all the new buildings to be much higher from the ground and can resist to high winds because it's gonna happen again. I hope not, but logically, it will happen again. The highest elevation of Sanibel Island is 36 inches and is in the path of most hurricanes. In the video I saw some really damaged cars, I hope that people have left anyway for their security ? Thanks for sharing this video and good luck for all residents. We'll be visiting you again !!!
